Welcome to the Great Aussie Road Trip

Welcome to the Great Aussie Road Trip!
camp_siteAfter an amazing adventure in 2008, 4 months, over 20,000kms and thousands of images later we never dreamed we would ever get the chance to travel quite like that again.  We were so wrong!  Our passion for travel, photography and our love of sharing our adventures with anyone who will listen (or read) has seen the Great Aussie Road Trip come back to life and the Power family back on the road.

IMG_0484We are a family of 5 who all love to travel, we are not 4WD experts, we are not camping experts (whoa, so not camping experts) we are a real family, just like yours.  Read about who we are on our About Us  page and also see who is shooting with which Canon PowerShot camera.

Our aim with the Great Aussie Road Trip is to inspire families to experience Australia.  We hope that by following our journey, and those of our Guest Family Bloggers, you will be inspired to embark on a journey of your own. It doesn't need to be 4 months or even 4 weeks, just see a part of Australia you have never been to before.  You will not regret it.

WEEK FIVE - Litchfield to Darwin

Print PDF

Well this week took us from Litchfield NP to Darwin. We did a drive back into Batchelor and saw the mini castle in the park that is a replica of one in Europe before returning to Litchfield and looking at Florence Falls, Buley Rockpools and Walker Creek. Litchfield was beautiful and have put it on our “to do again” list.

Swissotel02Swissôtel Sydney

If there is one thing we love to do with the Great Aussie Road Tests, it’s to show you the best products and businesses who cater for families.  Recently, we were lucky enough to stay with the Swissôtel Sydney, a five star hotel located right in the heart of the city, walking distance to Darling Harbour, shopping, attractions and the monorail.

We travelled to Sydney for business however in our line of work our children are part of our business.  It was important to have them with us, yet entertained when we needed.  It was for this reason we chose the Swissôtel Sydney.

Lake Mungo

R_Mungo_sunset_1Well Mungo has thrown a few unexpected things our way!

On our way in we were trying to talk to the girls about Lake Mungo who seemed to have forgotten that there was no water (it has been dry for thousands of years). Quite a way in front of us, it looked like a person walked across the road (there was plenty of goats, sheep and cows we had already dodged), as we got closer we saw it indeed was.  Bob and Wendy had pulled off to the side of the road for a cuppa only to get their motorhome stuck in the loose dirt on the side (it was very deceptive as it had been recently graded).
