Want to know more about the Power Family?
Greg Power
33 years old, Greg works full time in the Imaging Section of a National Cultural Institution. Greg has been shooting for 8 years and has worked with and studied under photographers from all walks of life.
Greg currently has two photographic businesses, TRIK Photography which indulges his passion for new photographic projects and sports photography, and Juice Wedding Photography run with his business partner Andrew Mayo, which covers weddings in the Canberra and South Coast regions.
4 years ago Greg undertook a journey into West New South Wales for 3 weeks. This sparked his dream of travelling around the country, taking photos and sharing the experience with his young family.
This is the trip of a lifetime for Greg and he is looking forward to creating a unique portfolio of stunning imagery from across the country. He is also looking forward to introducing his children to new cultures and showing them just how vast Australia is.
Greg will be using both the Canon EOS 1Ds MkIII (a professional Digital SLR) and the Canon PowerShot G9 (top of the PowerShot range). Greg’s favourite photos candids of his family, the G9 will be particularly good for this sneaky style.
Rachel Power
28 years old, Rachel runs SpySee Mystery Shopping and Reviews with sister and business partner Carolyn Queale. The business has grown from the desire to work from home with the children as they grow. Rachel has worked in retail, hospitality and real estate which has given her a very strong customer service background, and a passion to make service improve.
Working very closely with other businesses run by mothers, Rachel is eager to prove that a business mum is just as professional (and possibly more organised) than any other business person – they have to be! Rachel was part of the very first Business Mums Expo held in October 2007, an expo that showcased businesses that were run in and around families. Rachel is also a proud member of Family Business Australia (FBA) and believes that Motherhood is the most rewarding thing in life however, it is not the only thing.
While two children are a handful, Rachel (and the rest of the family) look forward to a third family member in the near future.
Rachel will be running the website during the journey. Weekly she will update the journal with their experiences and tips they find on travelling. Rachel will also be conducting a study on customer service, seeking an answer to the question “is customer service really better in small towns?”
The planning and sponsorship for the PowerShot Great Aussie Road Trip has predominantly been conducted by Rachel. This project has given Rachel an outlet for her creative thinking and approaches. The stress of the build up has been translated into excitement and anticipation as the journey approaches and the project is about to launch.
Rachel will be using the Canon PowerShot SX 100IS. She loves to take photos of her children’s antics, most of the photography Rachel does is to show Greg what the girls get up to while he is at work. While on the road, Rachel will enjoy showing off her children to Australia – as any proud mother would.
Jasmine Power
Jasmine will turn 5 just before the road trip kicks off (25th May). Jasmine has a very intuitive personality, she will always notice something new and has a big heart and an even bigger grin.
Starting preschool this year was exactly what Jasmine needed. Her fantastic teachers have nurtured her love for learning and every day she comes home with a new song or fact that she didn’t know that morning.
Jasmine’s love of learning extends to her ballet classes. Dancing is in her blood, give her music and she will dance (and dress) the part. Her long legs and slim body suit ballet and so does the face of concentration while she dances.
Eager to ask questions about anything and everything, Jasmine absorbs more than Rachel and Greg realise, often surprising them with her educated comments. They really look forward to introducing Jasmine to the new environments and communities they will encounter on the journey. Jasmine is looking forward to seeing new animals (hopefully a Koala and a camel) and making new friends along the way.
Jasmine will have her own projects on the road trip. She was sad about leaving her preschool friends so while on the road Jasmine will be sending regular postcards to them to keep them updated on her adventures. Regular emails will be sent to cousins and grandparents, and there will be no stopping Jasmine writing her own journal entries on the website.
Jasmine has only just been introduced to photography and she will be using the Canon PowerShot A590IS. Jasmine loves to take photos which should give an interesting perspective to the PowerShot Great Aussie Road Trip.
Jemma Power
Jemma turns 3 shortly after the journey begins (14th June). Jemma is a genuinely happy child with a very cheeky streak. Rachel is used to Jemma being so quiet (and Jasmine talking so much) that mischief is always achieved before anyone realises, however one grin from that gorgeous mouth and a look from those big blue eyes and no one can stay mad – and she knows it.
Jemma loves being outdoors and active, she loves to jump on the trampoline and watch bugs (just as long as they don’t come too close). She will share every little detail with Jasmine and adores her big sister. On days Jasmine returns home from school she is greeted at the door with a huge hug and an excited laugh.
Jemma’s biggest love is hugs. She will do just about anything for a hug and beware her behaviour if you refuse! Rachel and Greg thought they missed the terrible twos, the tantrum three’s are already starting. This one will be very interesting on the road trip, however Rachel and Greg plan to keep her so occupied she will simply fall in bed at night (or so they hope).
The one thing that Jemma is looking forward to from the PowerShot Great Aussie Road Trip is the chance to see Nemo’s home.
Jemma will be using the Canon PowerShot A470, under the watchful eye of her parents. With a little coaching from Greg, Jemma’s photos will show Australia through the eyes of a 3 year old. Good or bad, her photos will be priceless.
