Started our new week on Shane’s Birthday with a relocation to the South Coast. We turned off the Southern Freeway towards Southwell Park to make sure we went on the Sea Cliff Bridge. What a shame we weren’t in a convoy with someone who could have taken a photo of us going over the bridge....it would have made a marvellous picture! The scenery became stunning but it was hard to pull up at a lot of places with the van on the back.
We drove into Kiama and picked up school parcels for the boys, and did the banking...the financial world still goes on!!!!
It was quite windy, wet and cold at Kiama and we were shocked at how expensive the caravan parks at Kiama were. So we drove to Gerroa to stay at a nice park on the Crooked River and at the beginning of the Seven Mile National Park. Kids were stoked because the park had a jumping pillow and it was only a short walk to the beach.
Day trip to Kiama next day as the weather had improved. Had a nice picnic under the pine trees before heading up the famous blowhole. Not blowing a lot today, but you still got the gist of it. Alot of historic buildings in Kiama, which is so different from home. Accidently came across the Little Blowhole on the way back to Gerroa.
Moved onto Culburra Beach on Wednesday, well actually Crookhaven Heads. That afternoon we just spent time around the park. The kids cautiously made some new friends; Chris and Samantha who were on short holiday. The surf being flat wasn’t very encouraging for Shane.
Happy Birthday to my niece Tamika!! We had a magic day on your Birthday Meekie.
We drove to Currarong and walked down to the beach there just before the headland. It was glorious!
Then over to the Beecroft Peninsula which is actually a Naval Weapons testing area. You have to call to see if the area is open to the public beforehand. Open today though!
Right at the end is the lighthouse at Point Perpendicular. This looks over the whole of Jervis Bay. Spectacular views, but not surprising given its right on top of massive cliffs. Honeymoon Bay was our next stop. What a spot! Crystal clear water tucked into a recess on the peninsula. Protected by most winds...it is just gorgeous. We were spotting fish and crabs and even what we thought were sea slugs. The water was beautiful for swimming too. Also called into check out Long Beach...absolutely wonderful and all but deserted, with just one other person sort of nearby.
Next day was time to catch up on school work again...finding this a little stressful and hoping that we soon work out a routine to make it a bit easier. Certainly deserved our break after and went to the beach for a cool off. Took a bike ride around to the boat ramp. Luke just loved watching the fishermen fillet the fish and feed the eagerly awaiting pelicans. Back to the park to have a play with the new best friends before we both moved on the next day.
Saturday saw us drive on to Mollymook/Ulladulla. We continue to be so impressed with the South Coast of NSW. If it didn’t get so cold over winter we might even consider moving down this way....Jokes family, we are not moving anywhere after
the trip is finished!!
Found a hidden local surf point...Shane was stoked!
Stayed at the Mollymook Caravan Park. What a little gem. The nicest people managing it who immediately informed us of their wood oven and suggested we get some pizza bases for dinner. Well I think these pizzas were the best I have ever eaten! Initially our plan was to stay only one night, but having found a good surf break and a great/cheap dinner option, we stuck around for another day. Took a drive up to Bendalong...again what a pearler! We saw about 6 MASSIVE stingrays come up to the beach front to be hand fed by some local fishermen. Also drove to Lake Conjola and were immediately impressed here too. Lachie, Luke and Emily had such a great time playing in the sand dunes.
