Phillip Island Adventure

San_Remo_bridge_to_Phillip_IslandWow, there is soooo much to see and do on Phillip Island we were amazed. It was such a shame not to have the kids with us as they would have loved it too, mind you, we would also have had to part with quite a bit of hard-earned cash!

Discovering more of the Prom Country

Fishing_at_Shallow_InletWhilst we were visiting Wilsons Promontory itself, we also wanted to get an idea of what else the area had to offer. With fishing uppermost in Guy's mind, our stay at Shallow Inlet rewarded us with some King George whiting. The kayak was launched, with a new adaptation of an old chair with it's legs cut off, whilst more comfortable, it also proved a little unstable.

Wilsons Promontory

Whisky_beach_to_islandsI think we were lucky with the weather, since the lighthouse at Wilsons Promontory records gale-force winds for over a month of each year. On our visit it was a beautiful sunny day with only a light wind blowing. We stopped at the visitor centre in Foster for maps and advice and headed on down toward Tidal River. With Victorian National Parks now free for day entry we cruised on through the park entry and took in the spectacular scenery.

Gippsland Adventures

historic_trestle_bridgeBasing ourselves in Bairnsdale gave us good access to touring both inland and along the coast. There are eight great drives suggested by East Gippsland Tourism, and we headed up along the Great Alpine Road to Bruthen and back along to Nowa Nowa in search of the historic trestle bridge that forms part of the East Gippsland Rail Trail.

Gippsland Lakes

Sandcastle_artWe arrived at Gippsland Lakes on the weekend of the Paynesville Music Festival quite by coincidence, so stayed in Bairnsdale and toured the area from there. This is a huge area of lakes, marshes and lagoons separated from the ocean by the coastal dunes of 90 mile beach.
