2 Days in the Car!!

car_shotWell, now that it is almost 9pm on our second day I had better let you know where we are!

We finally left home at the respectable hour of 7:30am yesterday (not the 5am Greg wanted to) and we travelled most of the day covering about 700kms.

We are travelling with my brother in law Dave and his two children, aysha (11) and Jake (5).  All the kids adore each other and are loving every possible second they have out of the car!

From Canberra we headed to Hay where we stopped for lunch, we had to stop along the way to throw out all our fruit (bag of oranges a bag of mandarines) then the tomatoes a little further up the road.

We managed to get as far as Lake Benanee just out of Euston which is about 50kms from Mildura.  We have been using our Camps book as a map and a great way to free camp!  Lake Benanee was fantastic as you can see from the photo.

We travelled through Renmark where I used to live and on past the edge of the Flinders Ranges.  It was so hard not to stop all the time but we know there will be time to stop and get the amazing photos on the way back - right now we have a lot of kms to cover!

This morning we got away about 8am and stopped at Macca's for brekky (COFFEE!!).  We decided to go as far as we could and ended up where we are now - which has escaped my mind, i'm too tired!  Anyway, we covered about 850kms today which was a long day but I have two people to thank - Haggus and Stookles!  Donna, the girls have been so amazingly quiet with their drawing on their Desk to Go's and playing with thier Magna Play's - if you are contemplating any kind of car trip go and chat with Donna at Haggus and Stookles, I can not tell you how much I love them right now!

For such long days in the car we can not tell you how absolutely amazed we are at how well Teddy is travelling. He loves being in the middle of the car and I swear he just waits for me to turn sround so he can crack that huge grin at me! The only problem with him in the middle is that he can reach both of his sisters hair and was absolutely beside himself with laughter this morning when Jas decided to finally finish her first journal entry (on paper mind you) and kept being interrupted by a foot that could just reach the top of her moving pencil! He has learnt how to climb onto the camp chairs and (Thankfully) how to climb down again too.

Jasmine learnt where the Scorpion constellation was last night and as we spent a lot of time on the road in the dark tonight she star gazed at every possible moment!

Jemma keeps asking when we will get home and quietly mentioned "I'm sick of long car rides" this afternoon but as long as there is food she is holding up pretty well.

Tomorrow Marree and LAKE EYRE!!

Ok, to leave you with our quote of the day from Yesterday...
The kids found a willow tree with a cubby style hole.  I remarked to the girls "Watch out for snakes," to which they came running out screaming, well, like girls - Jake comes out very annoyed and puts his hand on his hips in a huff and says "Don't be such worriers!" And storms back into the cubby!
