Merimbula to Jindabyne

Aqu_FoodAs I write this journal entry I am soaking up the most beautiful day by the lake in Jindabyne, we were preparing for cold but the day is as warm as Merimbula here in Jindy.  Now I'm getting ahead of myself, I have lots to catch you up on!

After  lovely day of rest on Sunday and a great game of football (GO THE DRAGONS!!), we woke to a bit of rain Monday morning so we swapped a few things around on the itinerary and instead of Magic Mountain we visited the Merimbula Aquarium.  Situated on the Merimbula Wharf, it was a lovely spot.  We took in the tour of the Aquarium that was absolutely incredible.  During the tour we were taken around to every tank as the fed the inhabitants of that tank, and explained all about the fish.  It was explained so well that all of us, even Jemma could understand what was being said, and as we moved around the different tanks everyone got the opportunity to be in front to be able to see.

The kids also loved being able to touch the anemoene and the hermit crab (who kept popping out of his shell to scare the kids). It was so well run that we were all enthralled for about an hour as we all learnt something that we never knew about the fish and life that is found under the sea in the South Coast areas.

After our tour we thought we would take the opportunity to have lunch at the Wharf Restaurant. We had a few people tell us that was where we would find some of the best fish and chips so we thought we had better see!  It was delicious! What we loved most was that straight away we were offered a high chair for Teddy and a big bucket of toys was brought over to keep the kids occupied. We had a fantastic meal and the view was second to none, overlooking the Wharf back towards Merimbula and out across the ocean in our magnificent views. You have to visit! (The girls highly recommend the pink lemonade!)
Grn_CapePulpit_RockAfter our wonderful meal we decided to take a drive out to Ben Boyd National Park, it was pretty grey and misty coming over so we thought we would head out while we could. It seemed that the weather hung around the mountains yet by the beaches it was lovely and sunny. We drove out to Green Cape Lighthouse and although we were a little late for the tour (tours are 1 and 3pm), we went for a walk along the rocks at the point and took a few dirt tracks to explore the area.  The Disaster Bay lookout was amazbeach_Grn_Capeing, as was Pulpit Rock. The best part about sightseeing is taking that dirt track and just seeing where you pop out, the views are always worth the trip.

We all slept well Monday night!  Tuesday morning we were preparing to visit Magic Mountain and the girls were so excited after already having to put it back by a day.  Teddy woke up terriSick_Tedbly sick and again, plans had to change.  Ted had a terrible cough, wouldn't eat or drink (you know he's really sick when he refuses a bottle) and was generally miserable.  We were heading to Jindabyne and thought perhaps we should pack up and head out so he could sleep in the car and we could set up in Jindabyne without him having to worry too much.  This meant that we would be missing Magic Mountain but I have to say the girls were amazing when we told them - they too were worried about Teddy. We headed out and were stopping by a friends in Bega, all the way there Teddy was in terrible shape so we decided to visit the hospital to assess if we should be continuing our adventure.

I can't tell you how wonderful the staff at the Bega Hospital were.  There was plenty of people waiting to be seen and although we were told it could be a few hours before we got to see the Doctor, as soon as they triaged Teddy and heard him cough we saw the Doctor straight away.  Ted is very prone to croup so we tend to be very wary when he is coughing. After some panadol and some steriods to help his breathing the Doctor felt it would be ok to continue on to Jindabyne. After all, I can keep him indoors here just as well as I can at home.Lake_Fish

So this is where we are now, Jindabyne.  We are in a fantastic townhouse that opens out to the Lake and the weather is beautiful. Ted is napping and Greg has just taken the girls up the Thredbo - I'll get him to keep the journal of their adventures for you.

I will say however, Nicole from Ski N Save Holidays found us the perfect place to stay (and yes the girls have already been fishing), and the girls were excited to get their gear including toboggans for our stay. This is going to be an interesting adventure!
