Off the Spirit and into Cradle Mountain

Spirit_off_and_first_Tassie_Glimpse5:45am we got a wake up announcement from the captain as we were sailing into Devonport. Plenty of time to jump into the shower and pack up before we had to be in our car at 6:30am. Disembarking took a little time as everyone went through quarantine again (this one focussed on boats and fishing gear) but you don’t mind when you know what is happening and the quarantine people are nice. As we left the area there was a man handing out tourist information packs with the local newspaper. I thought this was a particularly great touch, especially the two for one coffee at Macca’s!

On to the Spirit of Tasmania

Spirit_and_carWe had to make a few rearrangements to what we were carrying before we could board the Spirit.  The spare tyre had to be moved from the top of the camper to sit at the front, the kayak on the roof racks had to be moved on top of the camper, and it all had to be secured so it wouldn’t move. We had to fit in under the 2.1m clearance we had been allowed. (You can fit taller vehicles in however we wouldn’t have been able to make this sailing if we were taller.)

The Kick Off! Canberra to Melbourne

Jem_reading_to_TedLeaving Canberra I think this time was the easiest as we knew we only had to do about 300 – 400kms.  By lunch time we actually left! We stopped at Wodonga for the night, the second we got out of the car though we were all fighting hayfever.
