Some More Cradle Mountain

Mossy_trees_enchantedThe wildlife in this camp ground is nothing short of amazing! I have told you about the pademelons, the currawongs and the possums, well at lunchtime Jas jumped up from the table excitedly almost sending her lunch flying – “echidna, on the hill right there, echidna, LOOK!!”

Moss_on_EnchantedRight she was, a very young echidna (no quills on its back just lots of fur, quills around its legs though). This is added to the bumble bee that likes Teddy’s shoes (he must have nice smelling new shoes). This bumble bee is about 5cm long and almost that wide, it’s about 3 or 4 times the size of a normal bee and sounds like a plane when it is close by. When it flew at me I spilt my coffee trying to get away from it, not Teddy though, no. This thing landed on his shoe and I thought it was going to climb p the leg of his pants. I didn’t know if it stung or not and certainly didn’t know what to do, but Teddy did.  He sat dead still and just looked at it flying around him for about a minute! Now anyone who knows Teddy’s bee noise will be laughing now, because that was all he did for the next hour as he recalled the bee to everyone he met.

With the weather turning cold and wet, we thought today would be the perfect day for the walk Jasmine has been dying to take – the Enchanted Walk.  It was a lovely 20 minute (which took us almost an hour) walk along the river, surrounded by moss covered trees. It really was beautiful and Jas and I counted 6 different types of moss on one tree trunk in about a 10cm square. If fairies live in Tasmania, this is where they will live!

Jasmine just wanted toInfo_Tunnel_on_Enchanted spot a platypus that are known to live in the creek, that would top off her list of animals to see. Unfortunately she didn’t get to see one, although it was not for lack of trying.

Along the walk there are little tunnels with paintings inside them of the things we had seen in the area. Animals, mosses, insects, birds, plants and more, and they all had names to explain them.  Jas loves to know what it is she is seeing so she loves the pictures, Jemma loves drawings so she loved the pictures, and Teddy just loves tunnels!

And that brings me to now, Greg and Jas are out on a walk. Teddy and Jemma are crashed in the camper. We have found our camping groove in just 3 days and everyone is content. Tomorrow we pack up and head off to a new adventure.
