This beautiful Sanctuary is home to plenty of animals native to the area, including the children’s favourite Luna the albino Echidna! This is a great place to spend a day with lots of grasslands where you can set up a picnic amongst the local kangaroos and birds. There is even little games like ring toss and checkers hidden throughout the park to keep the kids on their toes.
The best part of visiting a location like this is that you c
an see firsthand just how dedicated the keepers are, and that your entry fees are being used for something other than profits.
Jasmine highly recommends feeding the Kookaburra’s. She was lucky enough to get right into the enclosure and (with gloves on) hold out a piece of food while to beautiful birds swooped past and took it from her hands. She lasted for about 5 feeds before she gave into fear - I was amazed that she even stepped in to give it a go!
My niece Theresa (21) also recommends feeding the Tawny Frogmouth. Again, walking through the enclosure to the Tawny she was excited yet apprehensive at the same time.
The amazing little bird wouldn't give us the show, he was determined to turn his back on us and only show his massive mouth to Theresa as she fed him.
Feeding tours like this will bring you up close with this beautiful wildlife and unlike many other animal encounter type tours won’t cost you the earth.
Teddy liked that he could still see most of the animals from his stroller, with the clear screen in some sections – I think secretly he was a little worried by the Magpie Goose!
With the Kangaroo's hopping around the enclosure and listening to the calls of the Dingo's it really was a great place to spend time with the f
amily.
Oh, and don’t forget to take a train tour to make sure you get to see the whole park and enjoy a great coffee or lunch at the Blue Wren Café. Don't forget a bag of food for each child too, if your's are anything like mine, they won't share!
