Q1. Tell us about your website?

The House of Vintner is wine-related and winery focused. We cater to wine companies, vineyards, restaurants and cellar doors, resorts and estates and other wine dominant industries

We started the blog first and the website came later. After taking a trip to the very beautiful Hunter Valley in September 2008, our business idea ‘The House of Vintner’ was born. We noticed a niche market for souvenirs promotional material and later we launched our PR arm of the business, promoting the Hunter Valley and its rich tapestry of Vineyards, Cellar Doors, Restaurants, and fabulous tourist attractions; as well as promotion of Wine Labels and other wine-related products.

Q2. Why do you support the Great Aussie Road Trip?

We love the Great Aussie Road Trip concept from start to finish! Having already taken a few road trips over the years and having seen a lot of the East Coast of Australia we decided we wanted to see more! Having travelled extensively overseas, I decided I wanted to see more of my own country and introduce my children to their homeland.

Particularly outback Australia!

A trip from Brisbane to Adelaide inspired this desire, and our many Hunter Valley trips really sealed the idea of travelling as a family for us. Recently we took a trip from Brisbane to Byron Bay together, with plans to go further afield very soon!

The link between our blog and GART is that we actively promote travel – with emphasis on the beautiful wine regions of Australia – and a special focus on the Hunter Valley. We promote wine tours, driving holidays, the opportunity to discover heaven at your doorstep, and we promote all of this via the blog and through my beautiful photography (Michelle Hayward Photography) that is unique to the trips we’ve taken and the great experiences we’ve had. Q3. What is your favourite Australian travel destination?

Ahhh.... try and guess? The Hunter Valley, NSW!

Q4. Who do you travel with when you go on holiday?

Mainly my husband and I travel together for business. As the parents of 9 children (seven of them who don’t drive) it is a logistical nightmare to take everyone on a business trip! That said – we’re planning a road trip with the troupes as soon as our house sells which will be called “The GCGHOV Road Adventure” – a collaboration between The House of Vintner &The Gold Coast Grapevine.

Q5. What is your number 1 tip for travelling with children?

Keep them entertained! Stop often! Buy a portable dvd player and play games with them – eye spy, spot the red/white/blue car, count trucks/buses, or make up words from number plates. You can have hours of fun with games like this. Sing songs! Colour in!
Read books! Keep loads of little easy snacks packed – finger foods and drinks.
