Our Trip Home - Part 2

It was about 10pm and Finally we got to the main road between Cape Melville and Cooktown, well graded and looking like a highway we managed to open up the throttle a little more, no sooner had we accelerated we found the rear of our rigs wanted to overtake the front, with trailers dragging behind we eased off the gas and lost traction due to what was apparent, a lot of rain dropped during the day, the track had no signs of this much rain and we definitely weren't expecting the main road to be this wet. This looked to be a slow trip down indeed, we sat on approximately 25kph and cautiously headed to Cooktown.

Our Trip Home - Part 1

Be Prepared……..for anything.

Sunday we started our trek home, we travelled the main Development road and broke rule number one. “Stop and camp regardless at 3:00pm” we decided today to catch an extra couple of kilometres and stopped at Archer River Homestead. Camp facilities were pretty good but we didn’t have much to choose from at 5 in the afternoon. There was limited space and we huddled close to the caravans, our neighbours weren’t impressed with someone’s snoring. “I’ll leave all names out of this one.” We discussed some possible options to continue our journey and finalised them in the morning.

Week Two

2_familyAs we passed through Lakefield’s NP we stopped at the Lilli Lagoons both Red and White, as we approached the Red Lilly Lagoon we startled a flock of Black Cockatoos, I’ve seen Black Cockies before, but never in this proportion, it was amazing to see and hear for that matter. The Termite mounds are another amazing site, spread throughout the bush these appear to go on for miles, each one different in design to the next; they almost appear like little castles in the bush.

First Week on the Road

Family_shotWell we all managed to get
away about 09:30 Sunday 20th travelling north to Waverly Creek Rest Area. With dinner prepared this morning in the Dream Pot we looked forward to getting to the Rest area to enjoy our two rolled chicken roasts and vegies.

The Itinerary!

Well, we are definately getting the excitment over flowing now, only days to go, we thought we'd give you a run down on where we intend to travel, can't guarantee it will be stuck to 100% but it is our intention to maintain it pretty closely. There is a good reason why we haven't set times also, with 3 families in total anything can happen, so, we will just the course of our journey. Stay tuned to find out where we are and reviews on location.
