The Adventure Begins Before We Hit The Road

kin-koona-134-webFirstly, I'd like to thank Rachel and Greg for allowing us to partner with "The Great Aussie Road Trip." It has been great sharing thoughts and needs to assist us in our trip. The excitement is mounting with Lyn, myself and the kids. With only 68 days to go until we hit the road to Cape York.

As purchases are made to be prepared for the trip we get more and more excited with every package that turns up on our door step. We just purchased and received our dual wheel carrier yesterday and hope the Tigerz11 9000lb two speed winch will arrive very soon. Both will be installed next week. We just installed a set of Auto Lokka's to the front of our GU Patrol and they work a treat. Just have to finish off the drawers to allow us room to chuck in the fridge and other supplies.

Our Dream Pot has been a fantastic piece of equipment that has been used in preparation of the trip to try many dishes both from the recipe book and our own concoctions, you can check out the photo's on The Great Aussie Road Trip Face Book page, it cooks so well, even the kids loved the meals we made in the Dream Pot.

We plan to be gone for approximately 24 days, there's Myself, Lyn (my wife) Melissa 15, Joseph 13 and Lynda 12. We are travelling with four friends and plan to get plenty of photographs of our journey. I get the question a lot "Won't the kids get bored?" We make sure we give them plenty of things to do on our trips. We often crank up the CD player and sing, we must look a real site for anyone overtaking us, we play the old favourite "I Spy" and look for items starting with each letter of the alphabet (in order, x is always interesting). As we like to experience the journey and sites we minimise the use of the 17" Roof mount DVD screen to the last couple of hours for each leg, this is usually silence bliss. An Lyn and I take that moment to share our thoughts and ideas of what we can do when we stop. Another thing that is a must with kids is to stop for regular breaks, it may add a little time to our journey but it stops the "Daaaaaad, I need to go" and allows them to swap seats and stretch, not to mention the rest of weariness that can overcome you as a driver, we always take advantage of the "Driver Reviver" stops and always contribute to them for the fantastic job these (mostly) volunteers do.

As we prepare more, I'll add photographs and other things we do in preparation of our trip. Until then. Happy Travels.
