Well here is another opportunity for you to follow our travels. We enjoy sharing our adventures with you and The Great Aussie Road Trip.
This year we bring to you, Birdsville (with the races), Lake Eyre, and Flinders Ranges, that's just for starters.
Keep up to date with our adventure as we travel the South, South East of Australia and surprise you with some other places we intend to visit.
This year, unfortunately we lose Melissa due to her work commitments, but we bring an additional family member! I would like to introduce Jasmine, our 20 year old, who this year, is delighted to be travelling with us.
Preparation this year is a little different for us as we have upgraded the old Trailer Tent for a Coromal Campervan. We've wired up the brakes, lubricated everything that moves, and doesn't for that matter! We are now in the process of loading both the Patrol and Van with supplies and clothes.
One thing we have learnt from experience with our own and others, it's a good idea to make sure “everything” and I mean "everything" is in good working order. The last thing you want when travelling is to have something go wrong due to neglect and have to come home early, bit different if it's an accident, these are usually unavoidable, but break down, generally but not always is avoidable, simplest way is to start well before your trip and check all the long term components and get them fixed. we had an oil leak a few months ago, while we had the gear box out we did the clutch, didn't "have" to be done, but better to do it now than to risk it, not to mention, saved us money from labour to do it later (gear box removal is tedious). Brakes, Steering and Suspension check, Lights and the wiring for the trailer. Last to do before we head out is another oil change, quick lube, filters replaced and we're ready to go.
Over the past twelve months we've put a saving plan together so we have available cash if an incident occurs, this allows us that bit of back up for our good mate Justin Case. For us, we make sure there is nothing owing on Credit Cards and that we have cash available for those places that don’t like technology, and believe it or not, there are some places still around that use cash.
An itinerary is a good thing to have also, don't make it too regimented though as often you may come across a place that you just really want to spend a little more time in, we've looked at ours a hundred time and changed it just as many times due to looking at places we intend to visit and finding some where closer that we feel may be nicer.
Something that also can be easily forgotten on a long trip is Registrations, Insurances and Roadside Assistance. If you don't pay by the month, make sure everything you are taken is going to be covered for your return trip, nothing could be worse that to have the renewal in your post-box and something goes wrong.
Again, best way for preparation is to prepare for the worse, if the worse happens then your covered, if it doesn't, well, you can enjoy the whole trip and not worry about the what if's.
With everything ready to go, we hit the road nice and early on Thursday, 3am actually and meet up with the Proudley's just outside Maryborough. Keep watching as we venture
